B.V.Sc. or Bachelor of Veterinary Science is an undergraduate Veterinary Science Course which deals with the branch of science dealing with all types of Animals. Veterinary Science, in specific terms, deals with the application of medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic principles to various types of Animals. The duration of B.V.Sc. is mostly 5 academic years including compulsory internship of 6 months duration covered in more or less 10 Semesters. The duration of the course may vary from 4½ to 5 years depending on the duration of the internship. The course is also referred to as B.V.Sc. & AHB, an abbreviated form for Bachelors in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry. There are certain criteria for completing the course in a certain time which may vary depending upon the institute, for example as per Kerala Agricultural University the maximum duration for completing the course is 8 academic years (16 semesters).
Veterinary Council of India is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of India. It lays down minimum standards of veterinary education required for granting recognized veterinary qualifications by veterinary institutions. The course syllabus veterinary science degree includes theoretical and practical training in various disciplines. Veterinary courses are mainly provided by various Agricultural Institutes in India. A candidate who completes the course is known as a 'Veterinarian'. The veterinary course is most suitable for animal lovers. A candidate needs to have a compassionate predisposition for animals. Animals cannot verbally explain their pain and suffering so one needs to be extra sensitive towards Animal Behavior to diagnose any expression of pain or abnormal behavior.

Admission to B.V.Sc. & A.H. is regulated by Commissioner for Entrance Examinations of Kerala (CEE) and Veterinary Council of India(VCI) on the basis of merit as assessed in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG 2019) conducted by the NTA.
Eligibility: 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination or Vocational Higher Secondary Examination or Pre-Degree examination of any University in Kerala state or an examination equivalent thereto recognised by the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and obtained at least 50% marks aggregate for these subjects in the qualifying examination. Relaxation of 10% marks will be allowed to candidates
belonging to Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes and 5% marks to candidates belonging to socially
and educationally backward communities as defined in G.O. (p) No. 208/66/Edn. dated 02/05/1966.
