Program Description The programme is designed with the purpose to create a pool of scholars of Buddhist Studies and Civilization who would excel in knowledge, orientation, and application of Buddhist Studies and its Philosophical Thoughts with its application in modern days in the context of peace and non-violence with high ethical standards and social relevance with focus of Socially Engaged aspects of Buddhism. Keeping pace with the disciplinary advances, the programme would address learning about ethical, psychological, historical, philosophical, economic, transnational, cultural, and linguistic functioning at various levels to facilitate acquisition of specialized knowledge in Buddhist History in India and abroad, Buddhist Philosophy (Theravada and Mahayana), Buddhist Sects, and Literatures as depicted in the Pāli canonical and other literatures viz. Vedic, Puranic, Epic, Singhalese, Tibetan, Chinese, Burmese, etc. The programme shall also facilitate inculcation of relevant attitude, human values, Buddhist ethics, gender issues, and a sense of empowerment. It recognizes multiplicity in ways and means of knowledge-creation and its application. To this end, the students will be familiarized with plurality in perspectives, pedagogy, and their implication. Objectives (POs): The programme shall allow students in specialized domains of Buddhist Studies and Civilization, along with quest for personal growth and citizenship. The school holds a provision for the inclusion of new courses and modification of the present ones during a given academic year. In the preparation of the programmes element of inter-disciplinary approach has been kept in view and embedded in the courses. Reading material will be made available by the concerned faculty to facilitate the habit of reading other source materials along with the class lectures.
Admission & entry requirements Graduation in any discipline from recognised University College established by law with minimum 45% marks (for General and OBC) and 40% (for SC/ST category) or equivalent grade.
