| Program Description |
As per guidelines of the UGC and Higher Education Council, Government of Karnataka, the Board of Studies in Biotechnology, Mangalore University framed a new syllabus according to the regulations governing the Choice-based Credit System for the two-year (four semester) M.Sc. Degree Programmes in 2016. The syllabus has now been revised.
The M.Sc. programme in Biotechnology under CBCS scheme has a total of 90 credits consisting of hard core courses (including project work) for 58 credits (64%) and soft core courses with choice for 26 credits (29%) and open elective courses with choice for a total of 6 credits.

| Admission & entry requirements |
Candidates who have passed three/four years Bachelor Degree examination of Mangalore University or any other University considered as equivalent thereto with Life Science subjects are eligible for the programme provided they have studied Chemistry/ Biochemistry as one of the major/optional/subsidiary subject and have secured a minimum of 45% (40% in case of SC/ST/ Category–I candidates) marks in aggregate excluding languages and group III subjects. Candidates who have passed Bachelor Degree Examination in M.B.B.S./ B.N.Y.S./ B.A.M.S./ B.H.M.S. with 45% (40% in case of SC/ST/Category–I candidates) marks in aggregate excluding languages and group III subjects may also be considered as eligible
