Program Description The Department of Physics, started in the year 1989, has a pool of well qualified and dedicated faculty members. It offers M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D programmes in Physics. The laboratories are well equipped to cater to the needs of the learners and to carry out Research activities. The department has a vibrant Physics club. It engages in stimulating interests in Physics and share the recent discoveries and inventions among students. The department organized a Five day International Conference on Integration of STEM Education and Mental Health during from 20-24 June 2016 and a one day Seminar on Recent trends in Physics 2017 on 10th March, 2017. Dr. Kent Butler, Associate Professor of Psychology and a Professional Counsellor from University of Central Florida, United States and Dr. Robinder P. Bedi, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia, Canada, Dr. K. Veluraja, Professor of Physics, Vellore Institute of Technology and Dr. Athimoolam, Associate Professor, Anna University Campus, Nagercoil and Dr. Theivasanthi, Faculty of Physics, Kalasalingam University visited the department and interacted with the students. Our students showed their active participation in conferences by presenting their work and winning prizes. Ms. P. Asha and Ms. R. Renisha, two of our M.Phil. scholars underwent industrial training at CBPST, Kochi. The department is active in various areas of research particularly in areas like Materials Science, Theoretical Physics, Spectroscopy, Biophysics.
